Director of Children’s Ministry Job Description
Ministry Context:
Holy Comforter is a warm and welcoming place that currently has a few active children. The church desires to grow our children spiritually and increase their numbers. We have a few dedicated volunteers who work with our children and help them to live into our church’s mission statement: “We worship God, love our neighbors, create community, follow Jesus, and steward our resources.”
Job Overview:
The Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM) is a new position. The DCM oversees all programming for children four years old through fifth grade with the goal of helping these children know that God loves them and calls them to follow Jesus. This is a part-time (10-15 hours per week) salaried position. The regular schedule is Sunday mornings with the other hours being flexible.
Principle Duties:
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for working with our children.
Ensure Safeguarding God’s Children policies are met for all children’s activities.
Develop and implement a program for children during our Discipleship Hour on Sunday mornings.
Guide our church in teaching our children to be followers of Jesus.
Communicate regularly with parents through emails, text messages, calls, and in-person.
Be responsible for managing the Children’s Ministry budget.
Develop and oversee seasonal activities and special events (for example, Christmas parties or Easter egg hunts) for children.
Collaborate with other staff of the church using their gifts and skills to support your work and offering your gifts and skills to support their work.
Maintain positive and engaging energy with families and children who visit or attend our congregation.
Establish long term plans and calendars for our ministry to children.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Personal faith commitment to follow Jesus.
Love for children with a passion to see them grow in their faith.
Excellent organizational skills that allow for proper planning for events and prioritizing of actions.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with all kinds of people.
Knowledge of childhood development.
Strong ability to teach the stories of the Bible and connect them to children’s lives.
Self-starter who enjoys creating new things.
Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and people.
Ability to lead others through love and service.
Comfort with Microsoft applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and church management software (We use Planning Center.).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
At least three years of experience with children
